Fixation Methods

When possible, the best neurohistologic results can be delivered when optimum procedures are followed for tissue preparation. For fixation, transcardial perfusion is the most effective fixation method and yields the best results. For some studies, perfusion is not possible, and an immersion fixation or "drop fix" can be acceptable for certain types of stains (such as basic stains and antibodies such as TH and GFAP).
